About Pierre Cléroux, Vice President, Research and Chief Economist, BDC

Pierre Cléroux has served as Vice President of Research and Chief Economist at BDC since 2012.

In his role, Pierre leads a team of experts who analyze economic data to uncover business and sector trends that affect Canadian entrepreneurs. A dynamic and seasoned speaker, he helps business owners navigate the risks and opportunities in today’s economic landscape.

Pierre also provides economic analysis and strategic advice to BDC’s senior management team and oversees all marketing and industry research activities.

With over 25 years of experience as an economist, Pierre has held key positions that have directly influenced entrepreneurs in Canada and internationally.

Prior to joining BDC, Pierre served as Vice President of Business Analysis in Saudi Arabia’s National Industry Clusters Development Program. He also held the position of Quebec Assistant Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Innovation, and Export Trade, where he implemented policies and programs to support small and medium-sized businesses and foster entrepreneurship.

Pierre holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree in Economics from Laval University, along with an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
