BCIT's Motive Power Centre of Excellence 142,000 square foot campus opened in 2014 on Annacis Island with the assistance of $20.6 million invested by the Provincial Government. It is Canada's state-of-the-art motive power training centre, encompassing a wide range of trades such as heavy-duty mechanics, transport trailer mechanics, diesel mechanics, commercial transportation mechanics, railway conductors and forklift operators. These state of the art facilities also include dedicated research and development areas.
The Motive Power Centre is a major contributor of skilled workers for the Province of B.C., accounting for over 70% of the province's Truck and Transport Apprenticeship training, over 30% of the Apprentice training for Heavy Duty Technicians, and 100% of the Railway Conductor training.
We are proud to partner with industry leaders in a variety of ways, including service training, applied research, facility access and use.
